A few words from Krystal:

Hi! I am Krystal.
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Work with a focus in trauma related care. I bring over 7 years of diverse experience in the mental health field demonstrating a strong commitment to serving individuals with complex mental health needs. My background includes providing individual counseling and facilitating therapeutic groups in a correctional setting and in crisis situations; specifically with individuals who have experienced trauma, contributing to Virginia’s first behavioral health court docket, delivering intensive services through assertive community treatment (ACT), and conducting emergency psychiatric evaluations to ensure appropriate, least restrictive interventions during mental health crises.

My approach utilizes a range of therapeutic approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy within a strengths-based approach. I believe that empowering individuals to discover the strength and resilience within themselves fosters lasting change and promotes long-term success.

In addition to my clinical experience, I have a unique understanding of family dynamics as the spouse of a military service member. This has also allowed me to live overseas as well as in multiple states across the country and has developed a deep understanding of military family dynamics and the challenges that come with frequent transitions and deployments. These experiences have imbued a level of cultural competence and ability to find rapport with diverse populations. I am also personally familiar with the impact of suicide loss, which informs my compassionate, trauma-informed approach to care.
